On Friday, January 23, 2026, tens of thousands of pro-life advocates converged on Washington, D.C., for the 53rd annual National March for Life, the world’s largest yearly human rights demonstration dedicated to defending the unborn and promoting a culture of life. Under the theme “Life is a Gift,” participants gathered on the National Mall for a powerful rally featuring inspiring speakers, live music (including performances by Sanctus Real), prayers, and songs of hope. The event culminated in a march from the Mall to the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court, symbolizing a continued call for justice, protection of life at every stage, and an end to abortion.
Among the dedicated volunteers ensuring the event ran smoothly were four members of the Family of Man Council who stepped up to serve as marshals. Brothers Chris Gallagher, John Moran, Jim O’Donnell, and Bill McInerney joined forces with other area Knights of Columbus to guide the massive crowd safely and orderly along the march route.
Knights of Columbus have a long-standing tradition of active participation in the March for Life, providing logistical support, crowd management, and a visible witness to the defense of human dignity. As marshals, these brothers played a critical role in directing marchers from the rally site on the National Mall toward Constitution Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue, ultimately leading them to the front of the Supreme Court building. Their efforts helped maintain order amid the large, enthusiastic gathering, allowing participants to focus on prayer, peaceful advocacy, and solidarity.
The presence of the Knights underscored the Catholic Church’s strong commitment to the pro-life cause, with many dioceses, parishes, and religious orders also represented through vigils, Masses, and pilgrimages in the days leading up to the event. Despite chilly January weather in the nation’s capital, the spirit of the march remained warm and resolute, with attendees carrying signs, banners, and rosaries as they chanted messages of hope and life.
Events like the National March for Life continue to draw attention to the ongoing effort to build a culture that values every human life from conception to natural death. The selfless service of marshals such as the Family of Man Knights exemplifies the hands-on charity and fraternity that define the Knights of Columbus and inspires others to join the movement.
